SESSION 1 - INTRODUCTION TO THE IHE

This session will provide a background about how IHE integrates international standards such as HL7, DICOM, W3C, to support the goal of interoperability. It will introduce the IHE integration profile development cycle and concepts: IHE actors, transactions, integration profiles, and Connectathon.

IHE, SOA, OHF and CHI: How these Acronyms Will Have a Major Impact on Health Informatics in Canada
IHE offers a new and common language for vendors, providers and administrators to communicate their requirements for health interoperability.

This presentation places IHE in context of health IT evolution over the last few years, looks at how Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) are being used to implement IHE, and the relationship between IHE and the Canada Health Infoway's EHRS. Lastly, Glenn will describe IBM's Open Healthcare Foundation open source contribution and its value to software vendors wanting to take advantage of IHE.

SESSION 3 - THE CONNECTATHON: IHE’S CONFORMANCE TESTING PROCESS
1:15 p.m. This session will go into depth about the IHE Connectathon process for testing conformance with integration profiles.

1:45 p.m. Information from Canada’s biggest health informatics standards player on what the IHE means to them and their standards vision.

2:15 p.m. A panel composed of healthcare IT leaders will discuss the direction that the Pan-Canadian Interoperable EHR should take, and the part that IHE should play in that future.
